In April 2008, he won the Sarlahi-4 situate in the Constituent Assembly election.[6]



He began his political vocation from 1990.[1] In the 1994 parliamentary race, he remained as the Nepal Sadbhavana Party hopeful in the body electorate Sarlahi-2. He came next with 10173 votes. In the 1999 parliamentary decision he won the seat with 14750 votes, crushing previous Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.[4] In 2007, Mahato split far from NSP(A) and shaped his own gathering, which later obtained the name Sadbhavana Party[5] Mahato surrendered from the between time parliament on January 19, 2008.[5]
